Worship changed lives!

Nearly 400 people from all over Sheffield Diocese gathered at Philadelphia Campus in Sheffield on Saturday 3rd October for the ninth Diocesan Development Day, entitled ‘Worship changes lives’. And worship did change lives as delegates encountered God in different ways throughout the day.

Helen Bent Helen Bent
Bishop’s Adviser in Music and Worship
  • Helen studied Music at Sheffield University, specialising in singing, piano and flute.
  • She has many years experience as a teacher and freelance musician.
  • She was ordained in Norwich Diocese, where she spent time researching the effect of the Ordination of Women to the Priesthood on the way we worship.
  • Helen is married to David, Team Rector of the Rivers Team, so she remains rooted in a local parish taking regular services there. They have three grown up children.
  • Helen is employed four days a week to develop music and worship in the Diocese.

Aims

  • To encourage parishes in the Diocese to reach their full potential in worship, liturgy and music whilst recognising their churchmanships, traditions and styles.
  • To encourage and train clergy and laity to develop their understanding and practice of worship, liturgy and music.
  • To help resource and enable worship in parishes with limited resources.
  • To help resource 'inspiring worship' in relation to mission.
  • To work alongside others to provide music for a variety of parish, deanery or diocesan occasions.
