The Diocese of Sheffield is the Church in Action
We, the Church, are a living body committed to meeting the practical
as well as the spiritual needs of our communities. Often, it
is church people and buildings that remain in communities when
all other services and agencies have closed or withdrawn.
Using these and other resources, each year our local action
helps:
- Protect thousands of local children
- Support young and first-time
parents
- Communities to break down barriers and build community
life
- Ensure local people's voices are heard and listened
to
- Create lasting jobs and opportunities
- Provide valuable community
space for local groups
- Preserve beautiful buildings for generations
to enjoy
The Church in Action provides life-changing projects and amenities
for children and their families from every faith and background.
It can take a pivotal role in bringing whole communities together
to meet local needs and begin long-term regeneration.
The Church in Action is for everyone, not just those who go
to church. It demonstrates the church's mission to love our neighbours,
an aspiration shared by every major religion and one which most
people, whether part of a faith group or not, can agree in principle.
Church people and volunteers live and work in every part of
our area. Because they are close to real people and places every
day, they understand local needs. This makes the Church in Action
unique and enables our work to be a focus for real and long-term
change.
The Church in Action is administered by the Diocese of Sheffield,
a registered charity (no 245861) and regional body for the Church
of England. With a few exceptions, it covers the whole of South
Yorkshire.
