NEWS: 2010 General Election
As the 2010 General Election approaches some Christians will wish to know more about the policies of different parties, some will wish to join with others to try and influence policies.
Here we have news of an opportunity to hear representatives from Conservative, Green, Labour, and Liberal Democrat (Nick Cleg) parties in Sheffield on the 19th of March looking at the issue of Asylum. (then Pre-election poster)
We also have a copy of a letter to candidates from all parties asking them to commit to making the treatment of Asylum seekers more humane. We have been asked if individual parishes would like to support this letter and be one of the named organisations listed at the end. If so please contact David Price at david.price2@googlemail.com

NEWS: Carbon Fast
All parishes in the Diocese of Sheffield are invited to join in the Carbon Fast this Lent. Having looked at the 2010 Tearfund Carbon Fast carefully we decided have produced a diocesan version of the Carbon Fast, based on Tearfund's 2009 Carbon Fast as we feel that this a better, simpler introduction to Carbon Fasting. Bishop Steven writes: “All of us need to think more deeply about the energy we use and the effects on other people. I commend the Diocese of Sheffield’s Carbon Fast for Lent 2010 as a really helpful and imaginative way to focus on the effects of climate change on the world’s poorest people”.
The details of the fast can be downloaded by clicking either of the following links:

NEWS: Understanding How Older Men Manage Shopping For Food And Cooking
After A Bereavement
The University is working with Derbyshire County Primary Care Trust on a project which hopes to improve the understanding of how older men manage shopping for food and cooking after bereavement. We want to interview men aged 65 and over who have been bereaved for at least three months to understand how well they are coping with these tasks so we can, where necessary, make recommendations on ways in which the health service and other organisations can help them if they need it. The research involves a face to face interview and taking height and weight measures. We would also like participants to keep a food diary for 4 days, full instructions on how to do this will be given. All information will be treated in the strictest confidence and no names will be used in any report. We will give a summary of the findings when the project is complete. The project is taking place in Sheffield and Derbyshire.
If you are interested in participating in this research you can ring me on 01246-514266. My email address is mick.bond@sheffield.ac.uk. I will then send you an information pack.
