What’s on offer in the diocese for those working with young people?

Support and Consultancy – The Diocesan Youth Officer is available to visit with local churches to support and encourage work with young people.

‘ eXtra’ – a new programme of development opportunities and events .. for clergy, youth workers, youth group leaders and young people. ‘eXtra’ – is designed to compliment your existing youth work and to help you develop new youth work projects .. working in conjunction with the Diocesan Youth Officer. Schools – The Diocesan Youth Officer is also available to discuss, encourage and support local church contacts with secondary schools.

The Hollowford Trust - a grant system for children and youth between the ages of 10 and 25 in the diocese of Sheffield. (download an application form from main children’s and youth work page)

AV Gear - (loan system) There is youth resources for loan at Church House are to help with your events. The cost is minimal and is there for maintenance of the equipment. (download a form from main children’s and youth work page)

Tents - Loan of Tents for Youth Groups (take your group away)

What’s on offer in the diocese for those working with children?

Nextgen A training programme for those working with children in church based situations. The course is open to people from all churches and is made up of group sessions, tutorials and portfolio building. It is accredited with Open College Network at levels 1-3 .On completion of the course workers are authorised by the bishop to work with children in their own parish for three years.

A very popular series of Workshops in Church House at the Resources Centre looking at both resources and skills for working with children.

Support and Consultancy in practice this means that Jenny is more than happy to meet with people in a parish to look at their work with children or even their desire to work with them and to help them to progress that vision.

Godly Play
Is a way of working with children to help them become more fully aware of the mystery of God’s presence in their lives. There are a large number of Godly play boxes in Resources to borrow and Jenny is available to help parishes develop work in this area.

Children and Communion Resources and support for parishes wishing to explore the issue of children who are baptised receiving Communion before confirmation.

Church and school
A significant amount of the job of children’s officer is to encourage churches in their links with schools. The children in our families, churches and communities spend a significant amount of their lives within school. How can the church develop positive relationships with schools that address the needs of the National Curriculum, Collective Worship and a desire to share the Good News of faith.

There are a lot of exciting links already in the diocese. This is an area that will continue to grow and hopefully there will be workshops offered in the near future to support this work. Jenny would also be happy to discuss issues and opportunities with parishes and deaneries.

Balance good practice training and support are delivered regularly within the diocese with Sue Booth the Diocesan Child Protection Officer.
